9 December business gifting opportunities
When you think of gift-giving opportunities in December, you likely first think of the holidays. While that is definitely a reason to send a gift, we’ve rounded up additional gift-giving opportunities to consider this month. That being said, we’re still going to start by talking about the holidays.
1. Holiday season
December has traditionally been one of the most popular gift-giving times of the year as various holidays are celebrated and people begin looking forward to the next year. It’s a great time to thank your employees and customers for a great year and wish them a happy and safe holiday season.
Because so many of the holidays in this timeframe are religious, it’s important that you don’t make assumptions about what your recipients do or do not celebrate. Unless you know for sure, we would recommend using general holiday messaging in your gift sends to avoid accidentally alienating someone. For more best practices, read our tips for sending employee gifts and considerations when sending client gifts.
2. Universal Human Rights Month
Human Rights Month and Human Rights Day (December 10) are focused on standing up for the rights and dignity of all individuals. To support defending the rights of individuals in the United States, we have added the ACLU to our marketplace as a charitable donation option. ACLU is a national organization with more than 4 million members, activists, and supporters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C. Their mission is “to realize this promise of the United States Constitution for all and expand the reach of its guarantees.”
3. International Day of Veterinary Medicine: December 9, 2022
International Day of Veterinary Medicine celebrates the work and accomplishments of veterinary professionals and organizations. The act of caring for animals and preventing diseases can be traced back to the Neolithic period, or 8,000 BC – 3,000 BC. The first public vet school was founded in 1879 at my alma mater, Iowa State University. Today, there are nearly 120,000 practicing veterinarians in the United States. Celebrate these individuals who spend their careers taking care of our pets and livestock with a gift of choice on the day recognizing them.
4. National Salesperson Day: December 9, 2022
The second Friday in December is dedicated to celebrating the salespeople you come into contact with during the holiday season. Being a salesperson is hard, and during the holidays, one of the busiest times of the year, it’s even harder. To help recognize their hard work and encourage a strong finish to the holiday season, reward and celebrate your salespeople on this day.
5. Dewey Decimal System Day: December 10, 2022
On December 10, 1851, Melvin Dewey, the inventor of the Dewey Decimal System was born. On the anniversary of his birthday, we celebrate the system he invented which is the most widely adopted library classification system. Use this day as an opportunity to commemorate those who maintain this organization system: librarians.
6. More Good Today Day: December 14, 2022
Did you know More Good Today Day was a holiday? I didn’t until I started doing some research for December gifting occasions. This day is all about encouraging people to practice more kindness and generosity. Take the lead with a random act of kindness that will surprise and delight your employees and/or customers on this day.
7. First Day of Winter: December 21, 2022
Winter’s not coming, it’s here. In the northern hemisphere, the first day of winter is marked by the shortest day of the year. Following this day, days start to get longer meaning we will slowly start to get more daylight. Consider using the start of a new season as a reason to celebrate all that was accomplished this fall or what you’re looking forward to this winter.
8. National Homeowners Day: December 26, 2022
On average, homeowners own their homes for 13 years before moving on. While home purchases typically aren't frequent, they are a big commitment, and working with a trusted realtor or realty group can make all the difference. Surprise and delight your former customers and celebrate whatever stage of homeownership they’re in. You never know, keeping in touch may be all the difference in getting repeat business from them when they’re ready to invest in a new property.
9. New Year’s Eve: December 31, 2022
When you think about New Year’s Eve, you may think about the live TV programs that count down, staying up until midnight, or celebrating with family and friends, but do you look at this day as a gifting opportunity? Sending a gift to end the year on a high note could be the perfect way to move into 2023 and keep your employees and customers engaged with you.
If you’re ready to take advantage of one of these gifting occasions in December, send a gift now.
